The Jew & The Carrot

jcarrot

This is a public service announcement.

Henceforth, all recipes will be posted on The Jew & The Carrot, the epicenter of Jews, food, and sustainability on the web. I am now a contributor for the “Best New Blog” and “Best Kosher Food/Recipe Blog,” as awarded by the Jewish and Israeli Blog Awards in 2007. I’ll be adding a new recipe or food-related post every week, so be sure to check it out!

In fact, I just wrote an introductory post, Stranger in a strange land, and tomorrow at noon you’ll find an entry on February 23 and my famous vinaigrette. Coming soon: borsht, Pelmeni (both the classic and kosher variations), Ukrainian shwarma, and mushrooms a la Drapkina!

Just came across your blog through jcarrot.org. How did you end up in Ukraine? (btw, i sent you a msg on twitter, but not sure if you msg from ppl you arent following…im new to twitter).

I’m interested and shocked at the same time. I was born in Donetsk and moved back in 1991, haven’t been back there since. As you can imagine my parents didn’t have the best things to say about the country or the city…so im very interested in how the jewish community is doing there…seems like your blog would be a good update to it!

Hi Vladik,

Thanks for writing! If you want to know more about Donetsk, in addition to what I have on my blog, check out the news section of the Do Good, Ukraine! website; there’s quite a few articles about volunteer actions organized in Donetsk. So far, all DGU activities in Donetsk are organized by young people from the Jewish community, although Jews and goys alike participate. For more photos, check out the DGU media blog. These are photos and videos from Zaporozhe and Donetsk alike, but if you click on the category Donetsk, you’ll filter out the other posts.

Please post comments as you search! I’ll answer any questions you have and give you whatever information I can!
